The Museum of Ceramics:

A Great Place to Work!

The Museum of Ceramic showcases East Liverpool’s meteoric rise to pottery dominance. Exhibits of pottery, photographs, tools, maps, and other artifacts are used to tell the story. The museum is a site of the Ohio History Connection and has two floors of exhibits, a theater, and a gift shop. Housed in the city’s former post office, the building is a beautiful example of the Beaux Arts design.

The first floor exhibits include the largest publicly displayed collection of Lotus Ware and an 1840s great wheel (potter’s wheel), one of only six remaining. A WPA era mural by Roland Schweinsburg is also displayed. The lower-level features dioramas of pottery shops as they would have appeared in 1900. A jigger shop, kiln, and decorating shop depict the skilled workers at their craft.

In addition to exhibits, the museum offers cultural programs for the local community including: MoC Talks (lectures), The Walker Music Series (local musicians), Trivia Night, The Holiday Table (tablescaping contest), clay and art classes for adults and children, Clay Academy (a weeklong day camp for kids), Museum March (gallery crawl), Ceramic City Clay Show, and the Around Town Literary Club. This museum is a lively place!
