VIRGINIA GARDENS GALA
The Virginia Gardens Gala was held August 17, 2019 for the opening of the exhibit, “Images of Rock Springs Park.” A large white tent, erected on Broadway, covered white chairs and tables where the 80 guests dined on food catered by Hot Shots Bar and Grill. The Vince Villanova Orchestra played 40s swing music for dancing under the stars. Jackman and Jane Vodrey, Marc and Cindy Hoffrichter, East Liverpool City Hospital, Hill Trucking, and the David Mason Foundation were sponsors.
THE TARDY HEARTY MARDI GRAS PARTY
The Mardi Gras Party was held in March of 2018. Guests were given masks and beads and served Cajun food by Hot Shots Bar and Grill. The Lincoln Park Performing Arts students entertained with jugglers, singers, a caricature artist, photo booth, living statues, and a jazz band in Preservation Hall (the theater). Frank’s Pastry of Chester set up a beignet shop on the lower level that was the hit of the night.
SPEAKEASY
PRETTY BOY FLOYD
“The Last Run of Pretty Boy Floyd,” a locally produced documentary, was the feature at Speakeasy in the fall of 2017. Kelsey Hedrick was the guest host and cast members answered questions and talked with the audience. Guests also enjoyed food and drink from the Prohibition era and many had photos taken with the Model T loaned by Jim and Alana Campbell. Some even held a Tommy gun (loaned by Mike Shaw)

THE STORY OF
LOTUS WARE
“The Story of Lotus Ware” took a storybook approach and provided “stories” that gave insight into the creation of this art pottery made by Knowles, Taylor, and Knowles in the 1890s. This exhibit presented highly rated pieces of Lotus Ware, all from one private collection. Click the title of the exhibit (above) to see these unique and valuable pieces.
LU-RAY
Sharon Pink, Windsor Blue, Persian Cream, and Surf Green….all these beautiful pastel colors made for an exhibit that was pretty and uplifting! Hundreds of pieces of tableware and accessories from the collection of Teresa and Greg Benkert and John Vukovich were loaned for this exhibit. Lu-Ray was made by Taylor, Smith & Taylor from the late 30s to the early 50s.

ROCK SPRINGS PARK
Rock Springs Park was an amusement park that operated in Chester, WV, from the late 1800s until 1970. During its heyday, it would attract 20,000 visitors daily. This exhibit features over 50 large scale images (mostly postcards) of the park. It also features souvenirs and park memorabilia from the collection of Bill and Donna Gray.

CELTIC CEILIDH
Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day is now a “thing” and MoC celebrated it on September 21, 2018. Ten- year old Layne Cate Murphy (Palm Harbor, FL) danced Irish jigs, Erin Markley sang Irish ballads and David Van Buskirk played the bagpipes. Also featured was a display of Irish Belleek. Surprise of the night was a visit from Layla, a sweet Irish wolf hound. Guests enjoyed Celtic snacks and played Irish-themed games.
MUSEUM MARCH
Museum March is an annual event held the last Saturday in March (postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID 19). This is a gallery crawl event where participants visit historic buildings in the area. “Wee the People” daycare provides transportation between sites and MoC hosts a reception at the end. CLAY ACADEMY
In the summer of 2019, the first Clay Academy was held and there are plans to make it an annual event after the pandemic. This week-long day camp (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) is for kids ages 10 to 14. Activities include door knob toss, ghost walk, clay handbuilding and throwing, pottery shard craft, tours of potteries and much more. All supplies, a t-shirt, and lunch are included in the fee.
